Books, beautiful books... 7/7/11

I think book posts are one of my faves to include on this blog. Friends always comment who have great suggestions of new books to read, and great conversation.

Sadly I am STILL reading the Berlin Wall book. As mentioned before, it's a large book with a heavy subject matter, therefore taking me a while to finish. Almost done though. To balance out that heavyness I am also reading "Meet me at the cupcake cafe", a light read I bought en route to Paris. It's light and fun and actually has more of a story than I expected.

Below that you will see the next three reads I have planned. "Kafka on the shore" was given to me by my cousin who just finished it, and I look forward to reading that after her review. She also convinced me to read "Gone with the wind" saying it was amazing! I also can't wait to read 1984. It's seems so relevant to what our world has become today- or at least thats what I've heard.

So as always- what are you reading right now?

  1. "Kafka on the Shore" is one of my favorites! In fact, Murakami in general is pretty brilliant. Curious if you end up liking it/him. His books are a bit...different, but super creative and well written. If you like Kafka, try "Wind-Up Bird Chronicles". My fave of his.

I just finished Ann Patchett's "State of Wonder" and loved it and am in the middle of "All About Lulu" by Jonathan Evison and flying through it because I'm enjoying it so much. I'm trying to get in lots of pleasure reading before this baby is born :).

  2. Excellent selection - and I'm thrilled to be able to say I've read them all - well not Meet me at the Cupcake Cafe.. That I've not read.

I really didn't enjoy reading 1984 but after the fact I enjoyed it a lot. In fact I'd like to re-read it someday. It is quite a 'realistic' book - not in that what is happening in the story line is superly realistic, but more that it doesn't sugar coat anything.

And I stand by my notion that Gone With the Wind is the best book I've ever read. Enjoy!

I'm currently finishing up The Help - which now that I don't have long train rides and I work early mornings - has been taking me longer than I want it too. Really enjoying it.

Next on the list is The Hunger Games - it has been recommended to me a couple times by a few different people so I'm eager to see what it is all about.

  3. Teira - i've heard that The Help is a great book, that's definitely on my summer must read list.
As for me ... nothing as intense it seems as the stories your currently reading (well, with the exception of the cupcake one!). The one I'm reading is "Committed" by Elizabeth Gilbert. It's the follow up to Eat, Pray, Love. I was excited about reading it, but it's very different than I expected. Kind of an intense history of marriage around the world. Not the light summer read i was hoping for. Half way in, i'm liking it but not loving it.
